Base prices for handling packaging
VANA's prices are in DKK( Danish Kroner) per kilogram exclusive of VAT. The base prices for Q4 2025 (regulated 04/11-2025) and the base prices for 2026 (regulated 28/11-2025) can be found below and are stated in VANA's terms.
How does VANA regulate its base prices?
The base prices are regulated annually at the turn of the year and cover:
- the municipalities' costs for collecting household waste
- VANA's costs associated with the transport and treatment of packaging waste distributed by material categories
- VANA's costs for disbursing compensation for commercial packaging waste
- VANA's administrative and financial costs associated with handling packaging waste.
Note that the total costs for handling packaging also consist of fees to The Danish Environmental Protection Agency and Dansk Producentansvar (DPA) as well as an annual base contribution to VANA.

Base prices for 2025
For the other 5 material categories: textile, porcelain, cork, ceramics, and other, a price of 0.24 DKK/kg is set.
The same price is paid for the handling of the respective material categories, whether it concerns ordinary waste, residual waste, or hazardous waste. The Danish Environmental Protection Agency has indicated that it is the packaging that should be eco-modulated, and it therefore does not matter for the price whether it is classified as ordinary waste, residual waste, or hazardous waste, but rather the criteria in the guidance's appendix 14 that determine it.

How and when are the prices regulated?
The prices of VANA are primarily adjusted once a year and are outlined in VANA's terms. The prices are set by VANA's board and are applicable for one calendar year at a time. The prices for the upcoming year are announced every year at the beginning of November, after the municipalities have published their fees for the coming year.
VANA's prices can be adjusted continuously within a calendar year with one month's notice under special circumstances, such as fluctuations in raw material prices, number of members, transfers from other producer responsibility organisations, etc.
Members are always directly informed via email about any adjustments to prices.
Bonus/malus (based on eco-modulation)
The eco-modulation constitutes 35% (malus) of the operational costs and is based on the bonus/malus model. Malus includes expenses for the collection, transport, and treatment of packaging waste. Pure administrative costs are not included. This means that companies that make available packaging with low recyclability (red) must pay a larger portion of the costs (malus).

Bonus for companies that make available packaging with high recyclability (green) depends on the distribution between green and red reports in the respective material categories. Therefore, VANA pays out bonuses based on the following tier model until knowledge of the distribution is established based on members’ ongoing reporting:
2025: Members pay the base price for quantities in the green level. In June 2026, bonuses will be paid to the members who have reported in the green level.
2026: Members pay the base price minus bonus (calculated as 25% of the expected charged malus). In June 2027, any remaining bonuses will be paid to the members who have reported in the green level.
2027: Members pay the base price minus bonus (calculated as 50% of the expected charged malus). In June 2028, any remaining bonuses will be paid to the members who have reported in the green level.
