Base prices for handling packaging

VANA's base prices for Q4 2025 are shown in the tables below. The prices are in kroner (DKK) per kilo excl. VAT. The prices will be published in VANA's terms on October 1, 2025, when the producer responsibility enters into force. The prices for 2026 will be set by VANA's board of directors and announced on November 1, 2025.

The base prices are adjusted annually at the turn of the year and cover

  • the municipalities' costs for collecting household waste (approximately 75% of the price)
  • VANA's costs associated with the transport and treatment of packaging waste distributed by material categories
  • VANA's costs for disbursing compensation for commercial packaging waste
  • VANA's administrative and financial costs associated with handling packaging waste.

Please note that the total costs for handling of packaging also include annual fees to the Danish Environmental Protection Agency and DPA, as well as an annual base contribution to VANA. Read more here.

The Environment Agency has indicated that it is the packaging that needs to be eco-modulated, and it is therefore not significant for the price whether it is common, residual, or hazardous waste, but rather the criteria in Appendix 14 of the guidelines that determine it. Find a link to the guidelines here.

You will therefore pay the same price for the handling of the respective material categories, regardless of whether it concerns common, residual, or hazardous waste, and this price is eco-modulated.

Security provision

As Dansk Producentansvar (DPA) has still not made a decision on the amount of the security that all producer responsibility organisations (PRO) must provide by September 3rd, we unfortunately cannot yet say whether it will be necessary for VANA's members to provide a security or make an advance payment. VANA is working hard to ensure that this does not become necessary.

Bonus/malus (based on eco-modulation)

The eco-modulation constitutes 35% of the operational costs and is based on the bonus/malus model. NB: Malus includes expenses for collection, transport and handling of packaging waste. Administrative costs are not included. This means that companies providing packaging with low recyclability (red) must pay a larger share of the costs (malus). Read more about eco-modulation and the bonus/malus model here.

Bonus for companies providing packaging with high recyclability (green) depends on the distribution between green and red reporting in the respective material categories.
VANA therefore pays out bonuses based on the following tier model until awareness of the distribution is established from members' ongoing reporting:

2025: Members pay the base price for quantities at the green level. In June 2026, bonuses will be paid to members who have reported at the green level.

2026: Members pay the base price minus the bonus (calculated as 25% of the expected charged malus). In June 2027, any remaining bonuses will be paid to members who have reported at the green level.

2027: Members pay the base price minus the bonus (calculated as 50% of the expected charged malus). In June 2028, any remaining bonuses will be paid to members who have reported at the green level.

Regulation of prices

The prices of VANA are primarily regulated once a year at the turn of the year and are stated in VANA's terms. The prices are determined by VANA's board and apply for one calendar year at a time. The prices for the coming year are announced on November 1 each year, after the municipalities have published their fees, which constitute by far the largest part of the prices.

The prices of VANA can be adjusted continuously within a calendar year with one month's notice in special circumstances, such as fluctuations in raw material prices, the number of members in VANA, transfers from other producer responsibility organisations, etc.
