VANA encourages adjusted allocation in the consultation response regarding wooden packaging
VANA has today sent a consultation response to Dansk Producentansvar (DPA) regarding the supplementary allocation for wooden packaging. In the consultation response, VANA strongly urges that DPA makes an adjusted allocation that takes into account the current market shares of the producer responsibility organisation (PRO), rather than outdated data, and the ongoing re-registration of pallets from single-use to reusable packaging.
The current allocation creates, according to VANA, unequal competitive conditions between producer responsibility organisations, and risks leading to significantly higher producer prices for wooden packaging.
VANA's main points:
- Need for adjusted allocation: Dansk Producentansvar (DPA) should conduct an updated calculation so that the collection obligations of producer responsibility organisations align with their current market shares
- Distribution key must be adjusted: The packaging proportion for wood is set far too high (73%) and should be reduced since reusable packaging should not compensate for the collection of commercial waste
- Disproportionate costs: VANA expects to have to compensate for volumes that exceed the marketed quantities of members. This will put upward pressure on prices
- Insufficient data basis: The current decision appears to be based on outdated data, which does not reflect changes in producer definitions or new registrations after 2024
- Stability in the system: An adjusted allocation is necessary to avoid distortion of competition and severe price fluctuations at the next allocation
It is crucial that the allocation for wood is adjusted to reflect the actual market shares and that it is not based on outdated data.
