Registration of company and expected packaging quantities
Companies covered by the producer responsibility for packaging must register with the authorities between 1 April and 31 August 2024 and report their expected packaging quantities for 2024. As a member of VANA, you can do it all in one place - the Member Portal.
The quantities reported in 2024 are used by the authorities (DPA) to allocate municipalities to Producer Responsibility Organizations (PRO) when the producer responsibility for packaging enters into force in July 2025.
What needs to be reported in 2024?
In 2024, the company itself must be registered in the producer register and expected packaging quantities for 2024 must be reported divided into the following fractions:
- cardboard
- paper
- ferrous metals
- aluminium
- glass
- plastic
- food and drink cartons
- wood.
Reporting must be made in kilograms for the quantities of: commercial packaging and household packaging.
This does not mean that you must indicate whether you sell to households or businesses,
but that you must give your best guess as to whether the packaging ends up in household or commercial waste when the packaging becomes waste.
You must also state if you know whether the packaging is to be sorted as residual waste or hazardous waste - e.g. pizza boxes (residual waste) or hairspray (hazardous waste).

Make it easy: Join VANA now
At VANA, we work to make it as simple as possible to meet the obligations of producer responsibility. We therefore also handle registration and reporting in 2024 on behalf of our members through VANA's Member Portal.
When joining VANA, there is a one-time payment of DKK 4,000 in start-up contributions (DKK 2,000 for companies below the triviality limit).
If you are not a member already, register your company now - and we will keep you up to date on important information and deadlines in connection with the upcoming requirements and obligations.
Reporting of packaging of several materials
If the packaging consists of several materials, which cannot easily be separated, the
combined weight must be reported in the material category of which the packaging
mainly consists of.
In other areas of implementation of the producer responsibility, the authorities have defined weight as the decisive factor. Until there is a guide, we would therefore recommend that you evaluate "mainly"
based on the material that weighs the most in the packaging.
For companies with less than 8 tons of packaging annually
If you expect to make less than 8 tons of packaging available on the market, you can choose to only register the total expected amount of packaging made available in 2024, in kilograms, divided in respectively. household packaging and commercial packaging - and thus not divided into the individual fractions.
Reusable packaging and take-back schemes
Data regarding marketed reusable packaging must be reported after producer responsibility enters into force on 1 July 2025.
Reusable packaging is packaging that is collected and used several times for the same purpose, i.e. through a deposit or return system.
Data on expected quantities taken back in 2024 are not be reported.
Registration and reporting requires MitID Business
Registration and reporting to the authorities takes place through VANA's Member Portal and requires approval with MitID Business for Danish companies. You must therefore have control of your MitID access before registration opens in April.
Foreign companies and players must register and report directly with the authorities (DPA) with username and password.
Criteria for reporting in 2025
The design requirements in the ecomodulated fees for each material category will be published in June 2024.
The Danish Environmental Protection Agency has published a recommendation for material categories and design requirements.
