Collaboration with municipalities, utilities and waste management companies
VANA's collaborations extend across many levels, which together ensure operational reliability, environmental outcomes, data exchange and development. Waste treatment is critical to society, which is why collaboration is essential.
Operational reliability
VANA supports optimising logistics and distribution, transshipment close to collection routes, and coordination with municipalities, transfer stations, carriers and treatment operators.
Environmental results
Environmental results are a high priority for VANA regarding requirements for partners, as we work toward making the best possible use of material qualities and promoting circularity, so that we end up with both a high sorting rate and high actual recycling. Among other things, we do this by ensuring that the treatment facilities we cooperate with have the necessary certifications, and that traceability is clear throughout the process and up to the final treatment facility.
We set high, ambitious and innovative environmental requirements - we do this for a greener future!
Data exchange
We exchange data with the municipalities about:
- treatment facilities
- collection systems
- collected quantities
- treatment and actual recycling (average)
- climate data per waste fraction
- the packaging's journey

Development
To ensure development, VANA engages, among other things, in cooperation to secure high quality of the fractions and to address collection challenges, to increase collection quantities, to promote gentle collection and to find the best collection practices. We also want to collaborate on streamlining sorting by residents and on developing the sorting guidance for packaging waste. We always work to strengthen the dialogue with municipalities, utilities and waste companies, because we believe that dialogue, openness and clarity are the way forward.
Cooperation
At VANA, we believe that some of the main ingredients for a good collaboration are high commitment and sharing of knowledge. In addition, we have no doubt that it is important that we collaborate on the division of tasks between municipalities and producer responsibility organisations (PRO), on optimising logistics, on the citizen-facing collection, and that we work together in the waste treatment.
