Producer responsibility organisations (PRO's)
A producer responsibility organisation (PRO) undertakes the legal, financial, and practical responsibility for the producer responsibility on behalf of the producers registered at the producer responsibility organisation. At VANA is producer responsibility organisation and we handle the future producer responsibility for packaging on behalf of our members. What is a producer responsibility organisation?
A PRO is the most obvious way to handle your producer responsibility. The PRO handles the obligations for collection, sorting, waste treatment, statutory reporting to the authorities and payments to municipalities, private waste collectors, etc. The individual producer reamains responsible for reporting the correct data and paying to the PROs as well as conducting self-monitoring.
Requirement to register in a PRO for single-use packaging
Companies covered by the producer responsibility for single-use packaging must be registered in a producer responsibility organisation (PRO) no later than their registration in the producer register (DPA).

For reusable packaging and single-use plastic products, it is voluntary for companies to register in a producer responsibility organisation (PRO). If a PRO is cancelled, the company must enroll in a new PRO within 14 days.

At VANA, we work to make it as easy as possible for our member companies to fulfil their producer responsibility obligations. Therefore, we also handle registration and reporting on behalf of our members through VANA's Member Portal.
Membership of VANA costs a start-up fee of DKK 4,000 (DKK 2,000 for companies below the triviality limit).
