Approval scheme for reusable packaging online now
The Danish Energy Agency has opened for applications for the approval of producers of reusable packaging. If you have, or use, reusable packaging, it is time for you to familiarise yourself with the requirements for approval and start considering what information and data you already have available.
With the packaging regulation (PPWR), requirements for approval have been introduced for producers of reusable packaging who wish to make the packaging available on the Danish market. To be approved, companies that have and use reusable packaging must, among other things, submit technical information about the reusable packaging and a description of the associated reuse system.
The application must also contain information about the companies responsible for collection and waste treatment, documentation for meeting recycling targets, as well as a plan for self-check. The plan must ensure financing of waste management and the quality of the reported data.
The Energy Agency has published checklists of the documentation requirements that companies can use to prepare their application.
What should you do now?
If you have and use reusable packaging, you should familiarise yourself with the requirements for approval and start considering which information and data you may already have available. No deadline for approval has yet been set.
VANA is pushing for clarification
We are in dialogue with the authorities to clarify the specific application process, including how and when you should apply for approval, as well as what role we as the producer responsibility organisation can play in the approval itself. We will of course inform our members directly as soon as we know more.
