Stena Recycling as new supplier for the treatment of metal

VANA has chosen Stena Recycling as the new supplier for the treatment of metal from the Capital Region of Denmark. The change is made to ensure that the treatment agreement better matches the metal fraction that is practically collected in the area.

News 01 July 2026

After the first nine months of operation, VANA has found that the composition of the metal fraction from parts of the capital region and North Zealand differs from the assumptions on which the original contracts were based. The agreements were based on an expectation that the municipalities' sorting would follow the Danish Environmental Protection Agency's guidelines for sorting criteria. However, it has turned out that significant amounts of, among other things, gas cylinders, electronic waste, batteries, and large metal waste occur in the metal fraction from some municipalities.

Therefore, VANA has conducted a new tender for metal from the entire Capital Region of Denmark. The purpose has been to create better alignment between the contractual basis and the fraction that needs to be treated.

Stena Recycling has been chosen to take over the treatment of the metal from July 1st. The treatment will henceforth take place at Stena Recycling's facility in Grenå.

VANA thanks Denova and Posibi for a good collaboration on the management of the metal quantities from the capital region. At the same time, Posibi continues its contracts with VANA for the treatment of metal from Zealand, Fyn, and Jutland.
